Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is an injectable treatment that primarily targets dynamic wrinkles caused by expression. These wrinkles tend to develop when you frown, smile, laugh, or furrow your eyes. Botox temporarily paralyzes the muscles beneath the skin to prevent movement. The skin relaxes, as a result, softening fine lines and wrinkles.

Neuromodulators like Botox are among the most popular cosmetic treatments for men and women because they’re quick, require no downtime, and deliver fast, noticeable results.

How does Botox work?

As a neuromodulator, Botox targets the nerve signals that control muscle movement. By interfering with these signals, Botox, Dysport®, and other neuromodulators prevent muscle contractions. Relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkles to form temporarily smooths the skin for a more refreshed appearance.

Which areas can Botox treat?

Botox is a versatile injectable that can address many types of wrinkles and skin concerns, including:

  • Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
  • Forehead lines
  • Glabellar lines (between the eyebrows)
  • Bunny lines (on the nose)
  • Vertical lip lines (smoker’s lines)
  • Marionette lines (around the mouth)
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Horizontal neck bands

Neuromodulators can also help treat migraines and other medical concerns that involve muscle tension and overactivity.

What can I expect from Botox treatment?

Botox rarely requires preparation. Injections only take a few minutes and involve little to no downtime. You can visit Dr. Muñoz’s office on your lunch break and resume your regular activities almost immediately after your visit.

After mapping out your treatment areas, Dr. Muñoz may apply a topical numbing cream. Next, he administers the injections. You can expect mild bruising, swelling, and redness at the injection sites for up to 24-48 hours.

How can I enhance my Botox results?

Dr. Muñoz often recommends pairing Botox with radiofrequency (RF) microneedling. While Botox smooths and softens wrinkles, RF microneedling stimulates collagen and elastin production to enhance your results.

These proteins work together to tighten skin and improve elasticity over time for total skin rejuvenation. As new proteins form, your skin appears tighter, firmer, and more youthful.
